A Dark Horse King Kong, Airbrushed and drybrushed, with acrylics enamels, and oils. This Nice little kit, was sculpted, by the Maestro of stop motion animation Ray Harryhausen, the man behind countless, monster and fantasy movies, if you think of a film that had stop motion monsters in it, the likelyhood is it will be one of Rays. As you would expect, the skill he has amassed over the years, shows in this cold cast resin kit, The sculpt is superb, capturing Kong in all his raw fury, This was avery easy kit to build and to paint, the figure, is flawlessly cast in one piece, and the base, is two main parts and the chain, there was no sanding, or filling needed, so I just got straight to the painting, the base was sprayed with gloss black enamel, Dry brushed, silver enamel, then further dry brushed with antiquw bronze acrylic for weathering, Kong also got a coat of Black, The I dry brushed all over with bark brown, a very reddish brown, then it was just a matter of dry brushing, various browns, and greys, in different spots, to get the fur texture I was looking for, The eyes, are yellow ochre, blended with burnt sienna and red, for the mad eyed look, his teeth are Bleached bone, with a redish pink wash for his mouth, I am hoiping to take this kit, or at least the base to this years wonderfest wher Mr Harryhausen is making an apearence, with any luck I will be able to get him to sign it for me, that would be thi icing on a very sweet cake.
Footnote, this kit comes with 5 White metal miniature figures, I decided not to use them at this time as I didnt want to be extending the bas in order to display the figures, maybe later, wh knows Mark Atherton 07 March 2003
