One of the new items we are looking forward to is the inclusion of a regular, Member profile, here we will showcase, Longstanding Members of the Community, by highlighting their work, and getting to know a little better the person behind the Avator, Anyone wishing to take part in this project please feel free to contact us, So then here we go its on with the show |
| So as promised, here we have the first Member to step into the Spotlight, introducing Troy Naeyaert. |
| Q: So Troy first things first tell us a little about yourself, A: Well my Name is Troy Naeyaert, and I go by the Clubhouse name of modelman5, I'm 46 years young, and I live in Bay City Michigan, with my beatifull wife Ann Marie, also my mother in law Maggie, and our two dogs, Lady a beagle, and Missy a chihuahua, I'm a drummer of 25 years, and am currently drumming for the lord, on the worship team, I,m also on the Leadership team at our church, I enjoy collecting movies, reading, and of course building and painting model kits, The picture on the right was taken at Wonderfest 06 just one week after Ann and I where married. |
| Q: Troy, how long is that you have been building figure model kits, and when and how did you first hear about the Clubhouse A: I've been painting for about 15 years now mostly with hand brush, but for the last two years I have been getting used to using an airbrush, Ifirst heard about the clubhouse, when I was a member of the old Polar Lights, buletin board, man! that was back in 2003 WOW how time flies. Q: So how does the Hobby, fit in with your family and social life ? Do your familly support you when you are up to your neck in paint fumes and resin dust? How do your friends and work colleagues, view what you do for fun? do you find none figure- kit builders, generally positive or dismissive of your work? A: I am Blessed, in having a wife, who supports me in my hobby, and also is understanding of the amount of time that is sometimes needed, to build and paint a kit, She has also let me have the basement to display my kits and is proud of my work (Thanks Babe) My friends LOVE to come over and check out my work, (about 150 kits so far) and are also very kind in saying I have a gift, in being able to create and bring these, model kits to life. I always remind myself that God has given me this ability to paint and I thank him every day for it.!! |

| Q: okay so lets move on to your model kits, Over the years you have built quite a body of work, can you tell me which three kits, out of all that you have built, do you consider to be your finest work and the reasons why? A: Wow! just three, huh! I'm having a hard time picking just three, but here`s three I consider as some of my best efforts, First up is Mosters in Motions Phantoms Encounter, This was one of my grail kits and was sculpted by jeff Yagher, I built a diorama complete with additional scratch built walls, and water.I put A LOT of work into this one, and it will be one of the featured articles in a upcoming all readers issue in AFM in the near future. |

| Q: I love The Phantom, especially the scratch built add ons, so whats next? A :Killer Kits Pure At Heart: What can I say about this beauty, I's sculpted by Joe Bailey and released through Killer Kits out of England.I’m a “BIG” fan of the classic monsters and when a sculptor can capture a scene right out of the movie, (as Joe has managed here) well that is a “MUST” have kit for me.I added Woodland Scenics moss, and different colors of sand on the base and tree to create a more realistic looking woodlands setting. Q: another Brilliant rendition on another excellent kit, The base work is exceptional, So thats two down, what have you picked as your third choice? |
| A: Needful Things 1/1 Scale Wolfman Head:
This was my first attempt at painting a large head (bust) I have always been VERY intimidated at this scale and thanks to the encouragement of my good friend Scott, I dug in!! I think Robert Ortiz captured The Wolfman in a pose that not only captures the expressions of Lon Chaney but is true to the look from the movie. |
| Q: Troy I have to say that is stunning work for your first attempt at this scale, I particularly like the blending between the flesh tone and fur. |

| Q: As a long standing member of the Clubhouse how do you feel the place has developed over the years, are there any changes or additions that you would like to see made to the forums?
A:I’ve watched the CH which consisted of just a hand full of people develop into a “HUGE” community for those that share a love for the hobby of building and painting figure models.Think about it,you can log in and see others work, kit producers latest offerings, find that model that got away,or sell some kits, learn about sculpting, hear about and discuss the latest movies or video releases, and SO much more!! I’m enjoying the new forums and I hope that the moderators continue to listen to the community for future growth of the CH !! |
| Q: Over the years you will have seen many producers come and go, Is there any one kit by any producer, that you , wish you had bought, but never did, i.e. grail kit. And back to the present what's on your workbench, at the moment, and what will in all likelihood be your next kit purchase??
A:Oh,this is a tough one and brings back way to MANY coulda, shoulda, woulda’s for me!! I’d have to say Janus Companies Man Of A Thousand Faces would be at the top of my list. And currently on my work bench is Tower Of Londons Yagher Classics Volume 2 The Mummy. My next kit purchase will most likely Lord willing, Be at Wonderfest In May when I hope to pick up quite a few treasures!! |
| Q: Favourite Sculptor and Why?
A:My favorite sculptor, Man another tough one!! I’d have to say Jeff Yagher.I’m a HUGE fan of the classic monsters and he is the master at bringing them to life!!Jeff’s attention to detail, body motion, and has an incredible gift for likeness of a character.I’m also a fan of the work of the following sculptors; Mike Hill, Randy Lambert, and Joe Laudati |

| Q: Okay Troy thats the easy stuff out the way, now for something more tricky, What I would like you to do is pick your three favourite buildups, done by your fellow Clubhouse members, and once again if you could explain the reasons behind your choices. A: As far as picking 3 pieces of work by other CH members, WOW that’s impossible with all the talent on the CH. So with that said, I have picked three that because of my tastes these pieces stand out to me; 1: John Allred model: Selene (from underworld) I’m a HUGE fan of the underworld series of films and this sculpt is simply beautiful!! John’s paint work is simply amazing and Brings this piece to life!! 2.) Mike Rutherford (aka Trendon) model: Aurora Box Art Mummy I’m a Jeff Yagher Fan and also love the old aurora kits.So when tou mix the Ood Aurora box art with one of the “BEST” sculptors in the hobby that equals A MUST have line of kits. In my opinion Mike is one of the best I’ve seen at capturing the look of the box art with his style of painting. 3.) Saul Alverez Model: Marcus What can I say? another Underworld kit beautifully painted by one of the “BEST” painters in the hobby, Saul Alverez.this sculpt of Marcus captures the character in flight and adding Saul’s paint job breathes life into this resin beauty!! |
| Q: Some nice choices there Troy, good to see the Aurora tribute kit as I suuppose that the old Aurora monsters from the 60,s and 70,s are what got most of us 40 somethings intot this hobby in the first place. Now then one more little chalenge for you in the form of a pop quiz, please pick one from each of the following choices, A, Metallica, B:Pussycat Dolls, C: Beatles A: Soda, B, Coffee, C, Beer A: Dawn of the Dead, B, Frankenstein meets Wolfman, C: Aliens Vs Predator Requiem A: Huh?? Ok I’ll Bite; 1:C” Beatles 2:Tie between A (Soda) and B (Coffee) 3:That’s Easy B Frankenstein Meets The Wolfman I’d like to thank the mods at the CH for the honor of being selected to be the first member profile in the new CH news letter. I look forward to seeing many more members profiled along with their work. Thanks again and lets keep this board and hobby fun, After all it’s only a hobby. Enjoy the gift that God has given you!! |
| Troy Thanks for being the first to boldly go where none have been before Your time and patience are much appreciated |

| So whats been happening in the wild and wonderful world of the Clubhouse Forums, well most notably we have seen the return of Spock from his journeys to infinity and beyond, this means that the single most usefull figure kit related resource, on the web is back up and running, I speak of course of the one and only Model Museum, Please try and remember. |
| though that all of us staff do have full time jobs as well as looking after the Forums, so we would ask for a little patience when submitting models for entry into the museum continue using the submit button, please use common sense and dont submit more than five models on each submission and Spock will get to them as he can, he may be out greasing Klingons so your models may take a little longer to energise into the museum, Thank you. |
